The Hundred Club is an experimental creative space for children to use arts and play to explore social justice issues. Through collaboration and hands-on activities members of the Club have taken inspiration from the work of artists, as well as the history and future of Lesnes Abbey Woods – from the prehistoric ages when the land was at the bottom of the Blackheath Sea, to the Saxon ‘Hundred of Litlelai’, to the ruins of the Lesnes Abbey, to today’s forestry and nature conservation – to explore issues that affect all of us, such as climate crisis and climate justice, the anti-war movement, wellbeing, race, disability & gender-based inequalities & civil liberties.

In 2021 they first created a zine and newspaper, called WAAAAH. It includes features on pollution, local transport, sports, games, and reflections on sessions with artist Holly Graham and art/architecture practice Muf. The newspaper is distributed on a cart co-designed by the children.

The Hundred Club is based on principles of democratic decision-making – as an experiment in ways to work together, all members of the club decide the rules and direction of the activities.
